Pneumonia Symptoms.This disease is caused by the infection of the lungs. The lungs can contract infection in a number of ways including the virus, bacteria, parasite and fungi. Even chemical injury to the lungs can trigger the infection. It has several types but the most fatal variant is the Bacterial Pneumonia.
 
Symptoms of common Pneumonia
In this disease, the alveoli of the lungs in an affected person are filled with fluid and restrict oxygen from mixing with the bloodstream. The victims of infectious pneumonia suffer from heavy cough and spit phlegm. They may also suffer from high fever accompanied with chills. As the illness progresses, patients tend to experience some or all of the following pneumonia symptoms:
  • breathlessness
  • chest pain, especially when breathing deeply
  • chills
  • cough with phlegm (which is thick, green, yellow, clear or white)
  • delirium or mental confusion
  • diarrhea
  • earache
  • fatigue or weakness
  • headache
  • heavy breathing
  • high fever reaching up to 104° Fahrenheit
  • muscle pain
  • rapid heart rate
  • skin discoloration (purplish)
  • sore throat
  • sweating.
If the toddlers get afflicted with this ailment they may exhibit any or all of the aforesaid symptoms but generally they suffer from a reduced appetite and sleepiness. Usually, chest X-ray is used to diagnose and confirm the occurrence of the malady.

Atypical Pneumonia Symptoms
Symptoms of atypical pneumonia, or “walking pneumonia”, typically come on gradually. Other symptoms of Atypical pneumonia include:
  • abdominal pain
  • another preceding illness
  • a cough that only produces a little sputum
  • body aches
  • dry cough
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • joint pain
  • weakness
Fungal pneumonia symptoms
Symptoms of pneumonia caused by fungal infection include:
  • chest pain or dull discomfort
  • cough, usually nonproductive
  • difficult or labored respiration (dyspnea) leading to respiratory failure
  • fever
  • hypersensitivity or allergic reactions
  • papules, pustules, plaques, ulcers, abscesses, or lesions on the skin
Viral Pneumonia Symptoms
Infections caused by viruses tend to develop more slowly, after a few days of flu-like symptoms. They can cause a hacky or barky cough, headache, and pain under the breastbone. Other symptoms of viral pneumonia include:
  • chills
  • coughing up small amounts of mucus
  • clammy skin
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • joint stiffness
  • low-grade fever (less than 102o F)
  • muscle aches
  • muscular stiffness
  • nausea
  • shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • sweating
  • tiredness
  • vomiting
